News From Burcu

Hello everybody,

I have been reading the posts but this is the first time I'm posting. I got married in June in Turkey. My husband's name is Serhat. He's a PhD student in New Mexico. We returned US at the end of June. For a week we were in Phoenix. Although we had given a deposit for an apartment before we went to Turkey, the management company refused to rent it to us. We had to make a couple of visits to the management company. Finally they agreed to rent it to us!!!

After 3 days of struggle we had the keys. However, they said they had to paint the unit so we couldn't move in that day. After the painting was over we were in our home but it was not cleaned by the management company. So we had to clean it by ourselves. Hopefully they cleaned the carpet :))

After my husband and I finished all the work we were happy. TIRED but happy! After a lazy honeymoon, first week in US was full of house cleaning. Then we flew to New Mexico. After staying there for two weeks I returned to Phoenix. Now my husband is flying between Phx and Abq.

We hope this will affect our studies in a positive way and motivate us to finish as soon as possible.

Something about my research...

I'm currently finishing the second paper. Hopefully I'll defend this November...

The end of Intel era

It looks like for both Bekki's, the Intel adventure is ending sooner than anticipated. I got an offer from US Airways and they wanted me to start immediately. I couldn't say no, as I have always wanted to get into airline business and a similar opportunity may not come again. Jen, on the other hand, is going back to school full time to finish her degree requirements and she will be looking for a different job, afterwards. This solution seemed to be the one that would make us the happiest. BTW, as a US Airways employee, I get to travel domestically free through stand-by and at a discounted rate internationally. Jen also gets the same privileges. So, be ready, we might come and visit you anytime we find an empty flight :)

House For Sale!

Hi all --

Just wanted to give a quick update on what Baris and I are up to. Things are hectic with working full-time and trying to do research, but in our "free" time, we've decided that it's officially time to buy a new house. So, we've been meeting with a real estate agent, and as of today -- our house is officially on the market! I'll try to remember to add a picture to this post after we have the "for sale" sign put up in front of our place. No to worry, though... When we do sell our place, we're not planning to move far -- we're going to look for a house in the same zip code. :)

Hope this finds everyone well...
